Within the scope of the European Mobility Week, which has arisen from the partnership between the core consortium (Eurocities, Energie-Cités, Climate Alliance), representatives from national ministries and agencies, European and International Associations and Organisations and the European Commission, the Dutch editon of the European Mobility Week (the “Week van de vooruitgang”) will encompass a full week of activities around the theme of sustainability.

I was invited to conduct a lecture on two symposia which were held for Dutch civil authority officials.

Why is it that people quite often don't change their behaviour, even if it's sensible to do so?

In this talk I focus on the scientifically well established notions of cognitive dissonance and dissonance reduction from the field of social psychology.

Since the year 2009 has been celebrated as the "Darwin Year - Darwin was born 200 years ago - I set off with Darwin's notion of our necessity to struggle for our existence by means of intelligent technological adaption such as sustainable mobility technology.

I then explain what cognitions are by showing a psychological test for children and even by conducting a Uri Geller spoon trick himself! I strongly assure though, I do not posses any so-called paranormal abilities. I then explain the reason why people tend to believe it, and, unfortunately, sometimes strongly refuse to not believe in spoon bending.

DESIGN OF APPRENTICESHIPS

Consulting and designing, taking interviews and browsing through hundreds of work flows, that’s the game right now, in order to set up a complete training course and apprenticeship for the organization’s academy.

The training for (new) employees involves the integral learning of work processes and the organization’s information system, the central nexus of data on the reception of asylum seekers.

GOOD HOPES ON SUSTAINABLE GRAPES

Pretoria, Johannesburg, Uppington, Cape Town - Republic of South-Africa

Partnered up with trifolia again. The South African Table Grape Industry (SATI) wants to disseminate knowledge on producing sustainable table grapes among their members, producers of table grapes.

We built up a network around the theme of sustainability. We therefore had long and interesting meetings with the Department of Trade and Industry of the Republic of South-Africa, professor Nico Visser, Dutch attaché of agriculture at the Dutch Embassy in Pretoria, Tshwane University of Technology in Pretoria (TUT), the University of Cape Town (UCT), the CEO of Fair Trade and among others, we also had an interesting meeting with probably the largest producer of table grapes of the southern hemisphere, the Karsten’s Farm.

We also had nice discussions with numerous experts on sustainable entrepreneurship, South African economics, politics and social issues.

The IBIS project I was managing finally paid of. Literally. It is now possible for the organization to transfer money to their clients from within their custom-made Integrated Client Information System. All money transferrals are now completely integrated.

The ancient third-party software which was installed on separate computers, causing co-workers to manually transfer sensitive data on a memory stick, is now forever history.

At times we worked closely with the Rabobank Group and Equens.

Partnered up with Stefan Saalmink of trifolia, dr. W. Vermeulen and student Elma of the University of Utrecht and Claribel Müller, M.Phil, LL.M., Peter Ras, M.Sc., and students Leratho and Thandi of the Tshwane University of Technology.

This project involved performing qualitative research on the current developments on the field of sustainability in the (table) grape industry of South-Africa, conducted in Cape Town and around.

The University of Cape Town, Nelson’s Creek Wine Estate, the South African Table Grape Industry (SATI), Capespan, Welmoed Cellar and several others have been very helpful in this regard.

KEYNOTE SPEECH

Capgemini Nederland - Utrecht

Delivered the keynote address on Client Centric Application Development and its technical, organizational and human implementation for Capgemini’s Strategic Engagement Managers. The presentation was very well received and subsequently evoked some interesting discussions.

The many attendants were treated on a small surprise at the end at which I told them I wanted to read an apt passage from a fragile, very old antiquarian book.

Of course, I was very careful picking up the delicate object with its now yellowed pages. There was a profound silence when I gingerly turned over the pages. All of a sudden I then tore out the concerning pages.

I explained that this way I wouldn’t have to damage the book any further by touching it with the oily skin of my fingertips.

Responsible for managing development and implementation of new/modified work processes, facilities and central information (sub)systems in order to facilitate execution of the General Amnesty nationwide.

This assignment involves leading the implementation team, part of a larger project team. The implementation team consists of consultants and trainers.

The project involves client centric application development. Its goal is to develop an integral central information system for registration of a variety of data from asylumseekers and for reporting to management.

The chosen implementation strategy aims to make over thousand end users eventually use the application throughout the entire organisation.

After a period of contemplation and preparation Bird’s-eye Cognitions Training & Consultancy has officially hatched.

The company is founded in the lovely rural area of The Achterhoek, an eastern part of the province of Gelderland, The Netherlands.

Not long thereafter the registered office moved to the dazzling city of Utrecht, located in the centre of the country. Bird’s-eye Cognitions is now housed in the inspiring Studio Duvet Larousse. From this moment on only the sky is the limit.
